FILTECH 2026 in Cologne – Our Visit as a Recruitment Specialist for Process Engineering and Filtration

From 30 June to 2 July, FILTECH 2026 took place in Cologne, the world's largest trade fair for filtration and separation technology. We attended as visitors for two days, with the goal of listening: How is the industry currently positioned, which topics are genuinely occupying companies right now, and how do they assess their own situation?

For us, as a specialized recruitment consultancy for process engineering & filtration, the trade fair visit was worthwhile in every respect.

Economic situation critical, mood remains positive nonetheless

One topic ran through almost every conversation: the current economic situation. Several exhibitors spoke openly about challenges, whether more hesitant investment decisions among customers, longer lead times on projects, or an overall more cautious market environment.

What stood out, however, was how positive and forward-looking the overall mood was. The difficulties were named without turning into uncertainty. On the contrary: many of the people we spoke with looked ahead to the coming months with confidence, viewing the current phase more as an adjustment than a setback.

Fewer visitors, but the right conversations

Compared to previous editions, some exhibitors noted a lower number of visitors. What's interesting, though, is how little this observation affected their overall assessment of the trade fair.

Almost without exception, the conversations were described as meaningful and purposeful. Less foot traffic, but more substance. Those who stopped at the booths came with a concrete interest or a genuine question, not out of mere curiosity. For many exhibitors, this ultimately mattered more than the raw visitor numbers on paper.

This experience reflects a development that can be observed across the industry: the quality of contacts is increasingly outweighing quantity. Not least for us as headhunters for filtration.

Our takeaway from visiting FILTECH as a recruitment consultancy for process engineering and filtration

For us, FILTECH 2026 was a successful trade fair all around. Two days full of conversations with people from process engineering and filtration, many directly relevant to our current search assignments, some simply about getting to know one another and networking.

The impressions from our conversations with exhibitors match what we observe in our day-to-day work as a recruitment consultancy for process engineering: the economic situation is being assessed realistically, with a clear view of the challenges, without tipping into pessimism. The industry remains in motion, continues to invest with purpose, and continues to look for qualified professionals in process engineering and the right partners, just perhaps with a bit more deliberation than in previous years.

We're already looking forward to the next FILTECH, or rather, to visiting FILTECH again as a recruitment consultancy for process engineering and filtration and to all the conversations that will grow out of these two days in Cologne.
